Here is a picture I snapped last evening and it’s looking good. The theater will feature 1,100+ leather rocker seats, 12 screens, 2 wine bars, and a full menu.
The escalators now work so you can go up and take a look at the ticket booths and the main lobby area.
6 more days until the Grand Opening!

I snapped this picture on the way to lunch today…Looks pretty close to the drafts(see my previous posts for renderings). I am sorry it’s a blurry pic but I was moving and took it with my sub par camera phone :/

The theater opens to the public May 29th(2 weeks from today!)

The ghost-town building with the “55 W on it” downtown looks like it will finally see some life. Zom Residential Services announced this week that it will be leasing the condo units as apartments instead of selling them in a dried up market as condos. SNS, the bank that recently foreclosed on the building says that it will “temporarily” lease about 60-70% of the units until the market picks back up and analysis is done(on converting them back to condos). According to news reports today, Tremont Lendings(the owner) has decided to auction off Orlando’s Historic Church Street Station Friday. The lending giant foreclosed on the former owner Cameron Kuhn and is now trying to offload the complex as quickly as possible.

General Updates by

Reports recently indicate that the much anticipated movie theater(named Plaza Cinema Cafe) in the downtown plaza will be open to the public on May 29, 2009. The theater will be run by Las Vegas based American Theater Corp. They have many similar projects across the country.
The $6 million deal with the city is what helped this project get the final push for completion. The plaza development(towers and condos) were finished back in 2007 but the movie theater lacked funding/ownership to fully build out and open at that time. Once the funding was issued, the orginal timeline indicated it would open at some point in July of 2009, just in time for the busy summer movie season. Local businesses’ should see growth to their bottom lines earlier now.

This popular spot in downtown Orlando will be shutting it’s doors for good on 3/14. However, it will still be available to rent for private parties.
The decision to close can be attributed to lender-owner foreclosure and the recent down turn in the economy.
This was a great spot(especially during football season for Gator games!). It will be missed.

If you’re looking for something to do this chilly Thursday morning, Good Morning America is holding a live taping this morning at Church Street Station.
The show will do half it’s taping inside the Cheyenne Saloon and the remainder from outside. The program airs at 7 a.m. weekdays on WFTV-Channel 9. Go out and have fun(halloween costumes are permitted)
Most would suggest parking a few blocks away off of Rosalind Ave or Church street south of Magnolia so you don’t have to worry about the traffic on the way out after the show. Dress warm, temperatures this morning are in the 50’s!

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will hold their Monday rally in Orlando at the Amway Arena downtown at 6pm. Gates for entrance will be open at 3pm. Due to it’s potentially large numbers, it will probably be an outdoor event.
Organizers chose the arena, in part, because it’s a location that is accustomed to handling the traffic that comes with big events. He and Clinton are expected to attract tens of thousands of supporters.

For many of us, it has been a long time coming. For a few, this is recent news.
The Publix located on the ground floor of The Paramount (17 E. Lake Avenue Orlando FL 32801)will be open for business this Saturday 9/6/08 at 8am. I have heard that there is basement parking for customers but have not been able to confirm this myself as of yet. Elevators will take you up and down from your car to the shopping floor. There will also be many prizes and giveaways for the ceremony.
I think this will be a great addition to the growing Orlando condo market and the Publix will gain a healthy following from local downtowners and businesses during the week.
